One for the road

Evidently all is not lost still. The impulsiveness and wildness that caused those of a more stable and mature disposition in life to wring hands, chew nails, and spew righteousness still exists.

Last evening, nursing the last effects of an illness, I sat at home – bored. It’s all very well to read and watch loads of TV but I need to see people around. I don’t particularly want to socialize with anyone just have them around. So then, my best buddy from centuries called and said, “Come, let’s go.”

Normally, I’d demur and make excuses. But last evening, I just wore my lipstick.

We had a nice, longish dinner and I wanted something sweet. So the obvious choice considering the time seemed Leela’s. We were doing a mean speed on the road when I noticed a Coffee Day and said, “Hey look, we could do a chocolate fantasy there.”

And he was like, “Do you want to do it in Maddoor, da?”

I just said, “Baby, let’s hit the road.”

There is something unbelievably liberating about spur of the moment decisions. So drove to Maddoor we did. And at 11.25 pm in the night. The Café there is really nice. Awesome idea, opening such snazzy joints on the highway. Even the loos are super clean. By the time we reached, there was no desire for anything sweet and I had my usual Tropical Iceberg.

The drive now is one of the more pleasant ones around Bangalore today. Obviously, for us last night traffic was not a problem. They’ve really done the Mysore road up. And they’ve even paid attention to beauty and there are bougain-villaea bushes dotting the divider which makes the drive really cheerful even at night.

And the music we played was nice blow-your-mind-and-induce-a-trip stuff. I really have the most amazing music ever even if I say so myself simply because I have a bit of everything. Which also makes it so necessary to upgrade to that 160 GB i-pod. Oh sigh.

We began with hip-hop and cheered ourselves and I re-lived my wild sex days in my head. (And it was even okay to talk as there’s precious little Vinay doesn’t know about my life. Hip-hop that way is really sexy, such a delicious I-love-my-body factor in all of hip-hop) And then we listened to some great house and electronic where I re-lived my, ‘I’m a sex goddess days.’ (It’s so silly that they’ve gone and barred dancing in Bangalore. Really, for crying out loud.)

Simply liberating like I said, there is nothing quite like the combination of a drink, a pal whose known you for centuries and is privy to all your ill-timed lines, a drive on a beautiful road, and music that brings the smugness to the face.

I reached home at 2.30 am to a set of incredibly annoyed parents and that felt good too. I mean, I’ve been busy being responsible and good forever now. I almost thought I’d lost all the impulsiveness, but oh no, darling, the lady is back in action.

Now this the kind of piece which you write really well, a la Blue Funk. Maybe wild travel and not wild sex is your style :) Good one!

LOL, Anu, sure we can. Just so long as my 3s' are met. And now, of course I'd add another S into the picture.

Oh God Aman, you're the only soul in the whole wide world saying Blue Funk is written well. And oh I don't think I want to write about sex, I do want to travel and may be even write about it. Glad you liked it, we aim to please. :)
